Iceland fishing is legendary. Anglers from all over the world travel to Iceland, and have done for generations, during the summer months to experience fly fishing the wild Atlantic salmon, brown trout and Arctic char rivers and pristine mountain and highland lakes. With such a large variety of crystal-clear, well-managed rivers and lakes on offer, set in breathtaking scenery and with almost 24 hours of daylight over the summer months, the experience of fishing under the midnight sun is truly unique.
The fresh water fishing season in Iceland commences in April, with May and June being the prime months for fishing brown trout and Arctic char. The excitement for anglers really begins when the wild Atlantic salmon, Iceland’s prized and most sought after fish, enter the waters during June. In a number of late-run rivers, fishing ends at the close of September, although few ocean reaching salmon rivers are open until late October.
